Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue. Swift® is designed to use microwaves which heat up the infected tissue, break the barrier around the verrucae and this triggers a cell-mediated immune response which signals your body to make antibodies for the virus. The microwaves can travel through 5mm into the skin and they don’t break the surface of the skin or destroy tissue from the point of application like Cryotherapy, Salicylic Acid or Laser. It is completely non-invasive which is what sets it apart from other traditional treatments for verrucae.
Swift® is suitable for most people with few exceptions, although the purpose and reason for a consultation prior to treatment is to identify anyone for who it may not be appropriate. An independent UK clinical study analysed the worst cases of verruca across the country, and 76% of patients saw completed resolution in an average of 3 treatments. Patients also reported significant reductions in pain after each treatment. (1)
It is not uncommon for patients to feel a sharp sensation, similar to an injection. Unlike most treatments for verruca, pain felt during the treatment quickly subsides, and only in rare cases is there any prolonged pain.
In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities.
This varies between patients, however we recommend in most cases at least 3, given 4 weeks apart, although some people may require more.
